HOSPICE OF DAVIDSON COUNTY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

LEXINGTON, N.C. (July 26, 2019) – Hospice of Davidson County is looking for volunteers 16 years-old and up to join its team.

Hospice of Davidson County is currently seeking patient-family and administrative volunteers which serve in a variety of roles ranging from providing companionship for patients and families at the  Henry Etta and Bruce Hinkle Hospice House, in their homes or at other facilities to greeting guests at the Hinkle Hospice House, serving meals, baking cakes, preparing mailings and more.

Patient-family volunteers receive specialized training, enabling them to provide companionship and caregiver support to those experiencing a life-limiting illness. The agency encourages patient-family volunteers to consider a commitment of one to three hours per week.

“We strive to have our trained volunteers feel comfortable and connected to the agency,” said Hillary Bennett, volunteer services manager. “There’s a place for everyone whether it’s administrative duties, special event assistance, or being a patient/family volunteer.

“Currently, our greatest need is for patient-family volunteers. People who are willing to visit and provide respite for patients and families in one of our three settings, the Hinkle Hospice House, in their homes and nursing facilities. This could be perceived as a depressing environment to be a part of however; volunteers tell me over and over that they receive the biggest blessing by helping others during their end-of-life journey,” added Bennett.

Hospice of Davidson County will hold an orientation and training sessions for those interested in volunteering with the agency July 22-23 and July 29-30 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Training sessions will be held in the administrative building on the Hospice of Davidson County Campus, located at 200 Hospice Way in Lexington. Applications and registration are required by July 19.
